About

Minehead sits on the Bristol Channel coast in Somerset, with the town centre arranged along a long beach and a seafront promenade that leads to the harbour and quay. The harbour serves small leisure craft and houses the RNLI lifeboat station. Minehead is the western terminus of the West Somerset Railway, a heritage steam line that finishes at Minehead station close to the seafront. St Michael’s Church occupies a rise above the town and its tower marks the skyline when approaching from the promenade.

Shops and cafes line the High Street and streets behind the seafront, and a large holiday resort occupies ground near the shore. There is a mix of period buildings and maritime facilities, with slipways and moorings visible from the quay. Footpaths and lanes lead out from the town onto the coastal route and local walking tracks. Regular community events use the esplanade and harbour area, and the town’s scale and layout make the seafront, harbour and railway readily walkable from the central streets.
