Mortehoe

Mortehoe ward encompasses a stretch of North Devon's rugged Atlantic coastline, centred around the historic village of Mortehoe itself. The area is characterised by steep, rolling hills and high cliffs that descend to rocky coves. The landscape is primarily agricultural, with fields divided by traditional stone walls and hedgerows. The ward includes the dramatic headland of Morte Point, a notorious hazard for shipping, and the sandy beach of Woolacombe, which lies just to the south.

The local economy has long been connected to farming and the sea, though tourism is now significant. The village features a notable 12th-century church and stone-built cottages. A specific network of public footpaths, including a section of the South West Coast Path, provides access to the dramatic geology and views. The area's exposed position means it is often subject to strong winds and salt spray, shaping both its vegetation and built environment.
