Moulsecoomb & Bevendean

Moulsecoomb & Bevendean is a residential ward situated in the northeast of the city, bordering the South Downs. The area is characterised by post-war housing estates, including the large Moulsecoomb estate, and suburban terraced homes. It is home to a significant campus of the University of Brighton, which brings a student population to the local community. The ward contains several parks and green spaces, such as Moulsecoomb Wild Park, which follows the course of the River Bevendean.

The landscape is defined by the steep slopes of the Downland edge, with Bevendean itself nestled into the hillside. Local amenities are focused along Lewes Road, a major arterial route into the city centre. The ward contains the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy and the Moulsecoomb Leisure Centre. A local landmark is the former Brighton Borough Sanatorium, a distinctive red-brick building on Bear Road that now serves as part of the university campus.
