About

Nailsworth is a town and civil parish in the Stroud district of Gloucestershire, set in one of the Stroud Valleys. A narrow valley stream runs through the centre and powered woollen mills from the 18th and 19th centuries; several former mill buildings and at least one chimney remain beside the high street, now used for shops, cafes and small workshops. The town centre contains the parish council office and community spaces, with a mix of independent traders and periodic local events that draw people from the surrounding villages.

Transport is largely by local roads and footpaths. The alignment of the former Stonehouse and Nailsworth Railway can still be seen in embankments and cuttings and has been repurposed in places as walking routes. From the valley floor, fields and small woodlands rise close to the town edge, with allotments and green spaces near the centre. The visible sequence of mill buildings, converted to new uses, keeps the town connected to its industrial origins while serving a predominantly local community.
