Orsett ward encompasses a primarily rural portion of Thurrock, characterised by expansive agricultural land, scattered farmsteads, and small residential hamlets. The settlement pattern is dispersed, with the historic village of Orsett itself forming the main residential cluster, centred around its traditional village green and conserved buildings.

The area's rural character is preserved within the Metropolitan Green Belt, which restricts large-scale development. A notable local feature is the Orsett Cock, a historic coaching inn that has served travellers for centuries on the old London road. The ward's eastern boundary is partially defined by the M25 motorway, which introduces a constant ambient sound, while the surrounding countryside remains dedicated to arable farming and equestrian activities.
