Peacehaven East

Peacehaven East lies on the English Channel coast within the Lewes district of East Sussex. The area sits close to the cliff edge of the South Downs and includes terraces and crescent streets that run toward a sea-facing promenade. Local facilities include primary schools, small shopping parades, community halls and sports pitches, all linked by local bus routes and footpaths that climb the downs. Housing is a mix of interwar and postwar properties with some newer infill developments; green corridors and allotments thread between residential blocks, giving direct access to the seafront and cliff-top paths.

The town began as a plotland development from 1916 when Charles Neville marketed small plots for holiday and permanent homes, a layout that still shapes the street pattern in Peacehaven East. The Greenwich Meridian crosses the area and is marked at the seafront, a local point many residents use when describing location. Community groups run seasonal markets and coastal clean-ups, and the town council maintains play areas and benches along the cliffs that frame everyday life for people who live there.
