About

Ponteland is a village and civil parish in south-east Northumberland. The settlement grew where roads cross the shallow valley of the River Pont, the stream that gives the place its name. The centre retains a market-place pattern, with local shops, a library and community hall clustered around the parish church. Housing ranges from older terraces to more recent estates, and the parish includes primary and secondary schools, sports pitches and a small business park that serves local trades and services.

Within the parish is Darras Hall, an early 20th-century residential estate laid out with long plots and tree-lined roads; its private covenants and large garden plots shaped the suburb’s character. Close House, a country house and estate, sits on the northern side of the parish and contains managed parkland and a golf facility used for county and club events. Walks along the River Pont and lanes through agricultural land link hamlets and fields, and regular community markets and clubs provide local focal points for residents.
