About

Porthleven, Breage and Praa Sands sit on Cornwall’s south coast within the civil parish of Breage. Porthleven is a working harbour with a granite quay and a narrow entrance that concentrates swell; the outer wall is a local landmark and attracts experienced surfers when big Atlantic rollers arrive. Fishing boats still tie up alongside pleasure craft and small cafés and workshops line the streets behind the quay. The harbour hosts an annual food festival and there is an RNLI presence at the harbour mouth.

Breage village lies inland, dominated by the medieval church of St Breaca and a pattern of fields and lanes with remnants of 19th‑century mining across the parish. Praa Sands is a curved, mile‑long sandy bay backed by dunes and the South West Coast Path, used for swimming, surfing and family days out. The coastal path links headlands and small coves, and quiet lanes lead to cottages, caravan sites and farmsteads that reflect the parish’s rural character.
