About

Priddy's Hard sits on the Gosport waterfront and was built as a Royal Naval armaments depot. The site includes a long, low line of 19th‑century red‑brick magazines with arched casemates facing the water, linked by service passages, wharves and original slipways that served gunboats and barges. Many of the workshops and the former explosives laboratory are now home to Explosion! Museum of Naval Firepower, with displays on shells, torpedoes and the laboratory work that took place on site. The area is defined by its seawall, ramparts and a surviving guardhouse.

Brockhurst East lies immediately inland, a mix of terraced and semi‑detached housing laid out along a tight street pattern, small local shops and community facilities. Allotments and pocket parks punctuate the residential grid, and some streets have direct pedestrian routes down to the Priddy's Hard waterfront. Local bus routes run through the area and main roads provide access to the remainder of Gosport. Conservation status for parts of Priddy's Hard shapes planning and reuse in the adjacent neighbourhood.
