Richhill ward is situated in the southern part of the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon district. It encompasses the village of Richhill itself along with surrounding rural townlands. The area is characterised by agricultural land, with fields and low hills defining much of the landscape. Settlement is primarily low-density, centred on the village with dispersed farms and dwellings across the countryside.
The village layout is focused around a central square, which is a distinctive and planned feature from its 17th-century plantation origins. Local economic activity has traditionally been connected to farming and associated services. The ward contains several small watercourses that feed into the River Blackwater, which forms part of its boundary.
