Ripley South & Loscoe sits in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, roughly six miles north of Derby. The ward covers the southern part of Ripley town together with the adjacent village of Loscoe to the north. Local streets contain a mix of housing types, with a high street serving everyday shops, cafes and pubs, and primary schools and community halls providing local services. The A610 runs through Ripley and gives direct road links toward Nottingham, making the area a commuter base as well as a local centre for surrounding villages.
