About

Rothbury sits on the north bank of the River Coquet at the eastern edge of the uplands that lead into the Northumberland National Park. The town has a market-place of small shops, cafés and independent traders and acts as the local service centre for surrounding farms and hamlets. A short drive from the town is the Cragside estate, the Victorian house where water-driven generators first provided electric lighting for a private home, and nearby ridges such as Simonside offer named routes used by walkers and shepherds.

Longframlington lies on the A697 between Morpeth and Wooler and functions as a village hub for the surrounding arable and pastoral landscape. The settlement is arranged along the main road and is served by a village hall, a pub and local services that cater to neighbouring farms. Quiet lanes and public rights of way leave the village toward hedged fields and small woodlands, and the area is crossed by farm tracks that link village, field and upland grazing.
