Seaham Central & South

Seaham Central & South covers the town centre and the southern coastal quarter of Seaham in County Durham. The area includes the harbour and the seafront promenade, with the railway station on the Durham Coast Line providing regular links along the coast. Streets around the town centre host independent shops, civic services and local schools; traces of the town’s 19th-century coal trade remain visible in former industrial terraces and in the harbour’s layout. The seafront provides direct access to the beach and promenade and is bounded in places by low cliffs where the underlying Magnesian Limestone is exposed at the shoreline.

Residential streets extend south from the commercial core toward the headland and include post-war and Victorian housing, community centres and greens. Local facilities provide everyday services and small-scale cultural activity rather than major tourist infrastructure. Walking routes along the coast and through pocket parks are used by residents, and the harbour continues to be a working feature of the town’s fabric rather than a purely recreational one.
