Shirehampton & Avonmouth

Shirehampton and Avonmouth form the northwestern gateway to Bristol, situated where the city meets the River Severn estuary. The area is defined by the extensive industrial and port facilities of Avonmouth Docks, a major hub for cargo and logistics. Inland, the landscape transitions through the open green space of the Lamplighters Marsh local nature reserve towards the more residential streets of Shirehampton.

The community is anchored by Shirehampton High Street and the public gardens near the river. The area's history is closely tied to the port's development, with the early 20th-century Shirehampton Public Hall serving as a local landmark. The presence of the large chemical manufacturing plants and the Royal Portbury Dock on the opposite bank of the Avon are constant features of the horizon.
