About

Shoreham Central sits where the River Adur meets the sea. The town centre clusters around the station on the West Coastway line and a High Street of shops and services. The harbour area contains a working mix of marina berths, commercial quays, boatyards and converted warehouses, with the RNLI station guarding the harbour mouth. The river channel and slipways are used by local fishing boats and leisure craft, and a Grade II listed toll bridge crosses the Adur, carrying a local road between the town and the shingle spit.

Shoreham Beach is a narrow shingle spit with long rows of timber beach huts and a band of interwar houses set directly behind the shingle. Paths and groynes run along the shoreline and provide access to the foreshore; the spit shelters the harbour basin and anchors the local coastline. A small licensed aerodrome lies close to the eastern edge of the harbour, visible from stretches of the beach, and the pattern of streets on the spit reflects the area’s history as both a residential enclave and a working foreshore.
