Southwark St George's

Southwark St George's is a primarily residential district centred around the historic St George the Martyr Church, which dates to the early 18th century. The area is defined by its proximity to Borough Station and the open space of St George's Gardens, with a mix of housing estates, council properties, and newer apartment developments. Its street pattern retains a traditional London feel, with local shops and pubs serving the community.

The area is directly adjacent to the bustling Borough Market, yet maintains a quieter, neighbourhood character. A notable local institution is the historic George Inn, a surviving galleried coaching inn from the 17th century, which sits just beyond the area's western edge near the river. The district's history is closely linked to the former Marshalsea prison, the debtors' prison famously depicted by Charles Dickens, whose walls once stood nearby.
