About

St Giles ward occupies a central portion of the London Borough of Southwark, situated on the historic south bank of the River Thames. The area is defined by Borough High Street to the west and the railway lines into London Bridge station to the east. Its northern boundary runs along the riverfront, encompassing a segment of the Thames Path. This location places it directly opposite the City of London, connected by several major bridges.

The ward is anchored by the Borough Market, a major wholesale and retail food market operating for centuries. The area includes the historic church of St Saviour's, which became Southwark Cathedral. A dense network of railway viaducts and arches characterises the eastern side, now repurposed with various businesses. The historic coaching inn, The George, remains as one of London's last galleried inns from the medieval period.
