St Michael's

St Michael's ward occupies the northernmost section of Castle Point, bordered by the A13 to the north and the London, Tilbury and Southend railway line to the east. The area is primarily residential, characterised by post-war housing estates and bungalows, with local shopping parades serving the community. Open spaces include The Knares, a large playing field, and smaller recreational grounds. The ward contains several schools and a significant amount of light industrial and distribution premises located near its major transport corridors.

A defining characteristic is the presence of the large, landscaped mound known as the Belvedere, created from excavated material during the construction of the nearby A130. This artificial hill provides elevated views across the Thames estuary. The area's layout is heavily influenced by its major road infrastructure, with the A130 and A132 creating distinct boundaries within the ward. Canvey Island's central library and main leisure centre are situated here, serving the wider borough population.
