Staplehurst is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Maidstone, Kent, set where the River Beult crosses low-lying farmland. The parish grew around a main street and the railway, and the station remains a local focal point with regular services to London and Ashford. The river’s floodplain meadows form part of a protected landscape and fields around the village still show traces of hop gardens and apple orchards, a farming pattern that shaped local settlement. In 1865 a train derailment at Staplehurst drew national attention; Charles Dickens was among the survivors and helped other passengers, an episode remembered in local accounts.

Housing mixes older cottages and post-war development, while lanes and footpaths link the village to surrounding farmland.
