Stockbridge Village

Stockbridge Village sits on the northern edge of the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, created in the late 1960s and early 1970s to rehouse families from inner-city Liverpool. The area is primarily residential, made up of council-built houses and low-rise flats, with a local shopping parade and a community centre at its heart. Several primary schools and health services serve the neighbourhood, and pockets of green space and playing fields are woven into the estate layout. Much of the original housing was built using the system construction methods of the period, with later infill and refurbishment work changing the street scene in places.

Community groups and local organisations run programmes from the centre and from village halls, and regular bus services link the estate with Liverpool and other Knowsley towns. The estate’s history as a planned rehousing development is still visible in its street patterns and the placement of shops and services, which were concentrated to provide day-to-day needs within walking distance. Local volunteers maintain projects on greens and play areas, and residents use those spaces for informal sport and community events.
