Strood North & Frindsbury

Strood North & Frindsbury is a ward situated on the western bank of the River Medway, directly opposite the historic centre of Rochester. The area includes the residential neighbourhoods of Strood north of the railway line and the elevated settlement of Frindsbury, which sits on a chalk promontory. The landscape is defined by the riverfront, with industrial and maritime heritage, and the steep slopes leading up from it.

The ward is connected by the Victorian-era Strood Railway Tunnel and the modern A289 road bridge. A notable feature is the presence of ancient chalk caves and tunnels within the Frindsbury cliffs, some historically used for storage and shelter. Housing is primarily a mix of interwar and post-war estates, with some older terraced properties closer to the river and the town centre.
