Strood West

Strood West occupies a western segment of the Medway Towns, situated directly across the River Medway from Rochester. The area is primarily residential, characterised by a mix of interwar and post-war housing estates, with local shopping parades serving the community. The landscape rises from the riverside towards the higher ground of the North Downs, offering views across the Medway estuary. Industrial and commercial units are concentrated along the main transport corridors.

The ward is defined by key transport routes, including the M2 motorway and the railway line connecting to London, which physically separate some neighbourhoods. Strood railway station provides a direct link to central London. A notable local landmark is the Temple Manor, a 13th-century stone knight's dwelling situated surprisingly close to modern industrial units. Large areas of the ward consist of open spaces and playing fields, particularly towards its southern boundaries.
