About

Surrey Quays sits on the south bank of the Thames in the London Borough of Southwark, built around the surviving basins of the former Surrey Commercial Docks. Canada Water, a freshwater basin at the centre, links to a chain of dock basins and is used for small craft and wildlife habitats. Greenland Dock remains as a working marina and provides a long water channel framed by housing and quaysides. Russia Dock Woodland and nearby planted ponds occupy a filled-in dock site and offer a change of landscape within the grid of streets.

The street-level core includes Surrey Quays Shopping Centre and the Leisure Park along Lower Road, together with the transport hub at Canada Water station on the Jubilee line and London Overground. Recent housing and office developments reuse dock edges and wharves, and pedestrian routes follow original dock walls and quays. Local facilities mix retail, leisure and parks, with the docks themselves continuing to shape movement, drainage and recreational use in the neighbourhood.
