About

Teignbridge district sits on Devon's south coast, stretching from the English Channel at Teignmouth and Dawlish inland to Newton Abbot, Chudleigh, Ashburton and Buckfastleigh, and into the northern fringes of Dartmoor National Park. The River Teign cuts through the district and opens into a tidal estuary at Teignmouth; the South West Coast Path follows the seafront. Newton Abbot is the market town and hosts a racecourse; smaller towns and villages line the river valleys and upland edges.

Transport links include the A38 corridor and the Exeter to Plymouth rail line, which runs along the coast through Teignmouth and Dawlish beside the railway sea wall. Local economies combine agriculture, light industry and tourism, with inland woods, orchards and moorland access. Religious and cultural life centers on Buckfast Abbey at Buckfastleigh, where the monastic community produces Buckfast Tonic Wine and opens architecture and gardens to visitors. Conservation areas, local museums and walking routes reflect the district's landscape and history.
