About

Thames ward sits in the northeastern corner of the Vale of White Horse, bordering the River Thames which forms its northern and eastern boundaries. The area is primarily comprised of the large village of Long Wittenham and the smaller settlement of Little Wittenham. Its landscape is characterised by flat, open farmland adjacent to the river, with the distinctive rise of the Wittenham Clumps, a pair of wooded hilltops, marking its southern edge.

The ward is defined by its relationship with the river and its historical landscape. The River Thames provides a focus for recreation and shapes the local environment. The area includes a section of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Archaeological sites, such as the remains of an ancient hill fort atop the Clumps, are present within its boundaries.
