Wallington & Downend

Wallington & Downend is a largely residential ward situated on the western side of Fareham, bordering the River Wallington. The area is characterised by post-war housing estates, including the substantial Downend development, alongside older properties in the original Wallington village core. Local amenities are focused along Wallington Way, which serves as a central thoroughfare for shops and services.

The ward contains significant areas of open space, including the playing fields at Downend Park and the recreational grounds along the riverbank. A notable local feature is the Wallington Tide Mill, a restored 18th-century structure on the river, highlighting the area's historical connection to milling and water transport. The River Wallington itself forms a key natural boundary, with pathways following its course.
