West Bergholt & Wormingford

West Bergholt and Wormingford lie inside the borough of Colchester in Essex, set among farmland, lanes and a network of public footpaths. West Bergholt is a larger village with a long-established green, a cricket pitch and St Mary the Virgin parish church at its centre, alongside a primary school and a village hall that host community events. Road links and local paths connect the settlement to surrounding agricultural land and small copse woodland, and the pattern of field boundaries and hedgerows reflects centuries of local farming practice.

Wormingford is a smaller parish of scattered farms and cottages clustered around a medieval church and village lane. The area has attracted artists in the 20th century; Bottengoms Farm in the parish was the home and working base of the painter John Nash, whose studies recorded the local fields and lanes.
