West Penwith occupies the far west of Cornwall, where granite moorland falls to a coastline of cliffs, coves and headlands. The South West Coast Path runs along this shore past engine houses, adits and spoil from the 18th–19th century tin industry; Levant and Botallack mines sit on the seaward slope and Geevor lies to the north. Field systems, stone circles and hut circles attest to prehistoric settlement, and the area’s granite has long been quarried for building and harbour work.

St Buryan is an inland parish centered on a medieval church dedicated to St Buriana, with lanes, farms and clustered hamlets that open onto the moor. Boscawen-ûn stone circle and other standing stones lie inside the parish, set among Cornish hedges and smallholdings. Fishing coves and headlands are accessible by foot and the landscape still shows lane-side slate and stone walls, mining remains and small-scale pastures used for dairy and arable over many generations.
