Weston-super-Mare Uphill

Uphill ward lies at the southern edge of Weston-super-Mare, defined by the River Axe estuary and the Bristol Channel. The area encompasses the village of Uphill itself, with its older cottages and local shops, alongside more modern residential developments. The landscape is dominated by Uphill Hill, a limestone ridge topped with the ruins of a Norman church tower, which provides extensive views across the surrounding levels and mudflats. Much of the ward's western boundary is coastline, featuring a long shingle beach and the vast, exposed sand of Uphill Sands at low tide.

The area includes significant natural habitats, such as the Uphill Cliff nature reserve and the salt marshes of the Axe estuary, which are important for birdlife. The local economy has historical ties to quarrying, evidenced by the old lime kilns near the beach. A distinctive local landmark is the white-painted Uphill Boat House, perched on the shoreline. Daily life here is shaped by the tidal rhythms and the open, windswept character of the coastal environment.
