Winsford Over

Over is an area of Winsford in the Cheshire West and Chester unitary authority, located north of the River Weaver. Historically a separate village, it now functions as a residential quarter within the town and still shows an older village core around the local high street. The area is served by a primary school, a community hall and small retail parades, while local streets connect to the A54 and routes into Winsford town centre. Public greens and a recreation ground provide everyday outdoor space for residents.

The ground around Over bears marks of the town’s industrial past: salt extraction in the Winsford area caused subsidence that produced the Winsford Flashes, a network of shallow lakes and reedbeds close to the district. Those flashes sit beside footpaths and open water and draw anglers and birdwatchers, and their pattern of water and meadow defines much of the local landscape. The River Weaver and surviving canal features hint at the transport and industrial activity that shaped the area.
