Wood Green South

Wood Green South sits in the southern part of Wood Green in the London Borough of Haringey, centred on the High Road and the Piccadilly line station. The Mall Wood Green, formerly known as Shopping City, anchors retail activity beside the station and is flanked by a continuous run of shops, cafés and small businesses. Bus routes run along the High Road and connect the area to other parts of north London. Behind the commercial spine are short terraces and pockets of municipal housing laid out in a grid of side streets.

The neighbourhood contains schools, health centres and community spaces that serve a local daytime population as well as shoppers. Residential streets step up from the High Road into quieter blocks, with a mix of late-Victorian and interwar housing fabric and some post-war housing schemes. Local planning has focused on town-centre regeneration and small public spaces rather than large parks, so most green places in the south end are pocket gardens and playgrounds tucked between housing.
