Woodlesford & Oulton

Woodlesford and Oulton lie in southeast Leeds beside the River Aire, with the two settlements roughly on opposite banks. The area grew around coal mining and rail links in the 19th century and still shows the pattern of terraced streets, station approach roads and former industrial plots. A local rail stop, Woodlesford station, sits on the Hallam and Pontefract lines and provides regular trains into Leeds. Paths along the river and navigation offer routes for walking and cycling, and small clusters of shops, a primary school and pubs serve day-to-day needs.

Oulton sits immediately east of Woodlesford and includes parkland that once belonged to a country house; that parkland contains a hotel and golf course open to visitors. Local waterways, bridges and flood meadows shape how streets and footpaths run between the two places, and the rail embankment remains a clear divider on the village edge. The mix of commuter links and river corridors means the area functions as both a local centre and a route into the wider Leeds district.
