About

Worsbrough sits to the south of Barnsley town centre in a valley shaped by the River Dove. The area is centred on Worsbrough Mill Country Park, where a historic water-powered corn mill stands at the head of the reservoir that once fed local canals. The reservoir is used for fishing and small-boat sailing and is ringed by a network of footpaths that link to woodlands and farmland. Traces of former coal and textile industry remain in the landscape, visible in old bridges, canal cuttings and stonework that meet modern housing on the valley slopes.

Residential streets are served by local shops, primary schools and community venues, with regular bus links into Barnsley. The country park provides picnic areas, birdwatching points and marked trails used by walkers and cyclists; volunteers operate heritage displays at the mill and maintain the paths. Seasonal changes on the reservoir bring waterfowl and waders close to the shore, and the procession of walkers along the dam offers a clear view of the mill’s working waterwheel and the sweep of the valley.
