About

Yoxford, Wenhaston and Walberswick form a loose cluster of villages and coastal marsh on the Suffolk coast. Yoxford sits at the junction of the A12 and A1120 and acts as a local centre for shops, a village market and small businesses. Wenhaston lies a few miles inland on low clay and fen, with a parish church and lanes leading onto farmland. Walberswick sits on the south bank of the River Blyth, next to a long beach, salt marsh and reedbed. The estuary has shallow channels and sandbanks and a seasonal foot ferry crosses the Blyth in summer; small boatyards and slipways line parts of the riverbank.

The area is used for walking, birdwatching and low-impact boating; public footpaths and quiet lanes link the three villages. Wenhaston’s St Peter’s Church contains a rare late-medieval wall painting of the Last Judgment, uncovered in the 1970s and retained in situ, which attracts interest from historians and conservationists. Walberswick’s marshes are noted for waders and wintering wildfowl, while Yoxford provides a base for services, annual village events and access to inland cycle routes.
