About

Abersoch sits on the south coast of the Llyn Peninsula, facing a shallow sandy bay that shelters an active sailing community. The village is built around a small marina, boatyards and several sailing schools; annual regattas draw local crews and visiting yachts. At low tide sandbanks shift across the bay and change launching points, so skippers watch tidal charts and local marks when navigating into the harbour.

Aberdaron occupies the peninsula’s far western edge, centred on a compact harbour beside St Hywyn’s Church. It has long been a staging point for short sea passages to Ynys Enlli, with small boats operating from the nearby cove in suitable conditions. The Wales Coast Path runs along the headland here, passing pebble bays, exposed rock platforms and grazing fields. Narrow county roads link the two settlements and provide access to basic shops, seasonal services and local farms. Local fishers land shellfish and crab from nearby waters, and family boatbuilders continue to work on small craft.
