Armley ward lies directly west of Leeds city centre, primarily situated between the River Aire and the A647 road. The area is largely residential, characterised by Victorian terraced housing built for the industrial workforce. Its landscape is defined by the steep slopes leading down to the canal and river, with the large, prominent structure of Armley Mills, once the world's largest woollen mill, anchoring the southern part of the ward.
