About

Armley ward lies directly west of Leeds city centre, primarily situated between the River Aire and the A647 road. The area is largely residential, characterised by Victorian terraced housing built for the industrial workforce. Its landscape is defined by the steep slopes leading down to the canal and river, with the large, prominent structure of Armley Mills, once the world's largest woollen mill, anchoring the southern part of the ward. This industrial heritage remains a dominant visual feature.

The ward contains several local shopping parades along Tong Road and Armley Town Street, serving the community's daily needs. A key local facility is Armley Leisure Centre, which includes a library. The area is also known for the presence of HM Prison Leeds, a notable local employer. Green space is provided by Armley Park, while the Leeds-Liverpool Canal runs along the southern boundary, offering a route for walking and cycling away from the main roads.
