About

Arun is a local government district on the West Sussex coast in South East England, centred on the River Arun and its estuary. The district includes Arundel, Littlehampton and Bognor Regis along with a network of villages and farmland. The river runs north–south and reaches the English Channel at Littlehampton, where a harbour and a shingle bank mark the tidal limit. To the north the chalk ridge of the South Downs rises, and parts of the national park fall within the district boundary. The A27 and the Arun Valley rail line link the settlements along the coastal plain.

Land use ranges from seaside resort frontage and harbour activity to arable fields on the river floodplain. Arundel sits on a raised spur above the river with its castle and a cathedral nearby, and the river margins host a well-known wetland centre on reclaimed flood meadows. Local managers balance shoreline maintenance, harbour operation and conservation of estuarine habitats alongside small-scale fishing, market gardening and commuter links into the wider South East.
