About

Audenshaw sits in the borough of Tameside, Greater Manchester, on rising ground east of the city centre. The area is largely residential with rows of 19th-century terraced housing and later semi-detached estates that grew up around textile mills and local coal workings. Local streets are punctuated by primary schools, small shops and community centres that serve a largely commuter population. Main roads provide regular bus links into the wider conurbation and there are pockets of allotments and sports pitches used by local clubs.

On higher ground the Audenshaw Reservoirs form a distinctive chain of water bodies completed in the 19th century to help supply the expanding urban area; their embankments and access tracks attract walkers and birdwatchers. Audenshaw Hill above the reservoirs offers open slopes and public footpaths that lead across reclaimed industrial land and former quarry sites. Community events and club leagues are staged in the parks and halls that remain focal points for neighbourhood activity.
