About

Bestwood Village sits in the Gedling borough to the north of Nottingham and developed as a purpose-built colliery settlement in the 19th century. The village core is a conservation area where rows of stone-built miners’ cottages sit close to a small green and former village amenities. Local services include a primary school, several community groups and independent shops and pubs that serve the surrounding neighbourhood rather than the city centre.

Directly adjoining the settlement is Bestwood Country Park, formed on former pit and estate land and crossed by a network of waymarked paths. The park contains woodland, open grassland and the visible remains of the mining era: spoil mounds, brick engine-house fragments and parts of the colliery layout which meet parkland trails. The combination of compact village streets and immediate access to the park gives Bestwood Village a strong local identity rooted in its industrial and estate landscapes.
