Burngreave & Grimesthorpe

Burngreave sits immediately north of Sheffield city centre, concentrated along Spital Hill where shops, community services and places of worship line the road. The name Spital Hill comes from a medieval hospital once on the route. Housing is mainly terraced rows from the 19th and 20th centuries. Burngreave Cemetery provides a large green space with a grid of paths and surviving Victorian features that mark the area’s 19th‑century expansion, and small community parks and allotments are scattered between streets.

Grimesthorpe lies to the north‑east, straddling Grimesthorpe Road and a network of former industrial plots and railway sidings. Industry and housing sit side by side, with small manufacturers, warehouses and workshop units interwoven with residential streets. The area is served by direct road links into the city and offers practical local facilities rather than tourist sights: community centres, primary schools, convenience shopping and grassroots projects. Longer movements to work or rail travel typically use the main roads running through Grimesthorpe toward central Sheffield or the wider region.
