About

Cambourne sits in South Cambridgeshire, about 9 miles (14 km) west of Cambridge. The settlement was planned from the late 1990s and is laid out as three neighbouring parts: Great Cambourne, Lower Cambourne and Upper Cambourne. Housing, a High Street of shops and a business park were provided as part of the original masterplan, alongside primary schools and a secondary campus, Cambourne Village College, serving the area. Road links connect the village to nearby A-roads and local lanes without attributing attractions to other towns.

Community life centers on shared facilities: a leisure centre, library services, sports pitches and local clubs, plus a regular programme of markets and events on the green. Water management was built into the scheme, with balancing lakes and ponds that follow the line of the Bourn Brook and form measurable wetland corridors used by local bird species and by walkers and cyclists on linked paths. Planning-led open space and cycle routes make short trips within Cambourne practical, and the business park supports employers drawn from the district.
