Croesonen

Croesonen ward covers a largely rural area in the north of Monmouthshire, situated near the border with Herefordshire. The landscape is characterised by rolling farmland, small woodlands, and scattered settlements. The ward includes the villages of Llanrothal and Howick, along with several smaller hamlets. The physical geography is defined by its position within the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the River Wye forming part of its western boundary.

The area's economy has traditionally been based on agriculture. A notable local feature is the Croesonen Hillfort, an ancient scheduled monument that offers views across the surrounding countryside. Community life is focused around the local village halls and the parish church. The ward is traversed by minor country lanes, connecting its dispersed communities and providing access to the wider road network towards Hereford and Monmouth.
