Dowgate

Dowgate ward sits along the northern bank of the River Thames, encompassing a key stretch of the City's historic waterfront. Its area is defined by Upper Thames Street to the north and the river to the south, with a network of lanes like Dowgate Hill and Cousin Lane. The ward is a functional mix of modern office buildings and older, low-rise structures, serving as a gateway between the river and the financial district's core.

A significant feature is the presence of the Ward's two remaining livery company halls, Skinners' Hall and Tallow Chandlers' Hall, which have occupied their sites for centuries. The area is also the location of the ancient Dowgate dock, one of the original City gates that led to the water. Today, it is a transit corridor dominated by the Cannon Street railway station and its accompanying bridge crossing the Thames.
