About

Petworth is a market town in Chichester district centred on a long high street of shops, cafes and period houses. The town is set on the River Rother, which feeds the ornamental lakes in Petworth Park beside Petworth House. The house and its park, managed by the National Trust, contain a notable collection of paintings including large works by J.M.W. Turner and a parkland herd of deer that move through the avenues and grazing meadows. Regular markets and antique shops serve the town and the surrounding villages.

Easebourne sits a short distance from Petworth and forms part of the same rural landscape of fields, copses and lanes. The village has a parish church and community facilities, and footpaths link it into the parkland around Petworth House and the wider downs. Farming and small woodlands shape the local economy and appearance; you will find traditional smallholdings, tucked-away cottages and a network of public rights of way used by walkers and riders.
