Emneth & Outwell

Emneth & Outwell ward is situated in the far south of the borough, bordering Cambridgeshire. The area is primarily agricultural, characterised by expansive, flat fenland fields used for crop cultivation. The settlements of Emneth and Outwell are distinct villages connected by the B198 road, with Outwell extending along the banks of the old River Nene. The landscape is defined by drainage channels and wide, open skies, a legacy of the area's reclamation from marshland.

The ward's infrastructure is shaped by its waterways, including the Middle Level Main Drain. Outwell, historically a port, has a street layout following the curve of the former river course, with several listed buildings reflecting its past importance. The area remains a working agricultural community, with local services centred on the separate village cores. The flat terrain makes cycling and walking along the network of droves and riverbanks a common activity for residents.
