About

Filey occupies a long crescent of sand beside the North Sea, with a promenade that runs along the seafront and a compact town behind it. At the western end the coastline narrows into Filey Brigg, a limestone headland with rock platforms and pools that attract walkers, anglers and fossil hunters. The bay and low cliffs are used for beach access, birdwatching and coastal walks; a small harbour and lifeboat presence mark the town’s maritime character. Local streets include shops, cafes and traditional terraces that step up from the seafront into the older core of the town.

Hunmanby lies a few miles inland on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, where lanes and bridleways rise from farmland onto chalk hills. The village retains a clear street pattern and local services clustered around a green and the primary school. Paths from Hunmanby provide direct routes onto the Wolds and link back to the coast, so walkers often pass through the village en route to the cliff tops. Fields, hedgerows and small woodland combine with a working village pattern of housing, community buildings and farmsteads.
