About

Gawthorpe is located on the eastern side of Burnley, primarily bordered by the Leeds and Liverpool Canal to the north and the River Calder to the south. The area is largely residential, characterised by terraced housing built from the local, distinctive Accrington brick. Its layout reflects its historical development alongside the textile industry, with streets organised around former mill sites.

The ward contains several green spaces, including the Gawthorpe Hall estate with its extensive wooded grounds. The hall itself, an Elizabethan manor, is a significant local landmark.
