About

Gilberdyke sits on the east coast plain of the East Riding of Yorkshire. The village grew around the railway and local road junctions; Gilberdyke railway station provides regular services on the Hull–Selby line, and freight trains to nearby ports pass through. The settlement has a mix of housing, a few shops and community facilities serving surrounding farms. The landscape is characterised by arable fields, drainage ditches and former saltmarsh soils reclaimed for agriculture.

North Cave lies a few miles inland and is centred on a linear village street and the parish church. The village is gateway to a wetland reserve where shallow pools, reedbeds and bird hides are managed to attract local and migratory species; the reserve occupies former gravel workings beside a small river. Local paths link the village to surrounding lanes and the network of rivers and drainage channels that shape the area's land use. Community events and village groups use the village hall and green as focal points for village life.
