Gipsyville

Gipsyville sits on the western side of Kingston upon Hull along Hessle Road (A1166), about two to three miles from the city centre and en route toward Hessle. The area is mainly residential, with long runs of terraced streets and pockets of semi-detached and council housing laid out around local shopping parades. A retail strip on Hessle Road provides convenience shops, takeaways and small traders; light industrial units and garages sit on the outskirts where streets meet railway land. Street names such as Askew and Borrowbee are part of the local grid and many houses date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries when housing was built for workers in Hull’s westside industries.

Local services include primary schools, a community centre and regular bus services linking the neighbourhood with the city centre and other suburbs. Public open spaces and small allotments appear between residential blocks and the road network, and the area’s position on the western approach to Hull makes Hessle Road the main spine for daily movement and trade. The neighbourhood keeps a practical, working character shaped by its pattern of streets and local shops.
